My Digital Artefact originated as an instagram page aimed for university students based around the Illawarra region , that documented various local cafes and study spots, keeping in mind an affordable budget. As a local, born and raised in the Illawarra, creating a digital artefact that I had extensive knowledge about, as well as being informative and useful for other students like myself who enjoy the relaxation of a hot coffee and a nice meal regularly, would be both a successful and interesting concept. However, as a global pandemic interfered with our learning on campus, and access to local business’, my overall concept shifted from cafes to at home meals. My early ideation of ‘Tables with Taryn’, meant this change did not have significant consequences to my instagram and the audience it aimed to engage and provide useful information to. At the beginning of this process I created a starter pack that represented the type of person I framed my digital artefact for.

Throughout the semester and the building of ‘Tables with Taryn’, I had to keep in mind the concept FEFO. I faced many challenges that involved switching platforms, changing my overall style, and becoming organised ahead of time.
One of the best decisions I made as a part of this DA was switching from YouTube to WordPress. The reasoning behind this change was due to my personal preference of not showing my face, as well as wanting a platform that I could provide all the ingredients, method, personal reviews, a video tutorial, as well as, a pricing list, on one platform, putting the content in one frame. Taking inspiration from instagram accounts like ‘Tasty’ that used a birds eye view video style as a tutorial for their viewers, I created my own version of each recipe I was cooking or baking, and embedded it into my WordPress blog accompanied by al other information required. This was successful when matched with my YouTube engagement and Instagram engagement, as my statistics showed many views were coming through my WordPress blog.

Engaging with my followers and other instagram accounts, through instagram stories asking them questions about my content and what content they would like to see in the future, was another successful change I made throughout this process.

Not only did this help form a personal connection with the audience, and frame my content to fit the needs of my followers, it also opened a door for open communication between follower and producer via private messages.
Feedback from other food accounts, DA accounts, and followers allowed me to frame my ideas down, and allowed me to consider the content I was producing on a regular basis to my followers.

Using a combination of IGTV’s, blog posts, Youtube videos, and photos has demonstrated a variation of content. The use of hashtags and open suggestions from the public also demonstrated the importance of communication over social media platforms in the building of your account, or business.
Although my account didn’t reach the over 100 followers mark that I had originally aimed to reach, each of my followers have been engaging in liking my content, providing feedback and having a say in what content they wanted to see on their feed. The concept of framing has played an important role, without me fully realising, as without the concept of framing my ideas around the audience has been the most significant lesson I learnt throughout this trial.
I created a page that all university students living out of home, on campus, or in the Illawarra region, to find affordable, easy, and extremely delicious food, that they can make at home. I have enjoyed this experience, and I am extremely proud of the challenges I overcame and the content I produced.
